About Episode 117
Photographer Irina Rozovsky joins Sasha Wolf on PhotoWork to discuss her new photobook, Mountain Black Heart (MACK). They talk about how Rozovsky’s itinerant travels through the Balkans shaped both the images and the book’s atmosphere, and about the parallels between making photographs and making a photobook. Along the way, they consider how distance from home routines, unfamiliar surroundings, and a willingness to sit with discomfort feed her process.
About Irina Rozovsky
Irina Rozovsky (born 1981, Moscow) is drawn to regions with complex histories. While her photographs are rooted in reality, they ultimately weave a personal, psychological portrait of place. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; Philadelphia Museum of Art, and more. Irina lives and works in Athens, Georgia where she and her husband Mark Steinmetz run the photography project space The Humid.
